Our home’s history dates back to 1929 when the first rental house in Schubart Street was involved, led by Mrs. Machteld Postmus, Founder of Our Home. The large number of applications for placement and the support of the public has shown that the home has provided a great need. The home was not enough for the request later and a larger house for 20 residents had to be hired in “Zoutpansbergweg”. The ideal was to provide for 50 older people. In 1932, the government donated land to the new hospital at Onshuis. Through an exchange transaction, the buildings of the old hospital were acquired. In 1937 there were already 127 older people in Ons Tuis. Mrs Postmus had to be out of management in 1937 due to ill health. Under the guidance of Mrs. Cooke, the new chairman of Our Home, has left the company’s outstanding debt and a new phase in the facility’s history. In 1942, the Reformed Church became involved directly in the management of our home. The cornerstone of the present building was in 1952 by Mrs. Postmus laid Mrs. Elize Mans has been the Manager of the Residential Facility for Weakened Care for the last 22 years.
